Update from Julie's brother:
"We just met with Julie's surgeon. He gave us a great report. The left leg is done for 6-8 weeks. He put a cement antibiotic spacer in to help the upper bone to align and begin to heal. He put something similar to a halo on her lower leg for the two major breaks which allows them to draw the bones into place and make adjustments over the next few days. This allowed them to do the operation without major incisions to the lower leg. The knee cap is a concern because half it is missing. This will very likely lead to arthritis, joint slippage, and displacement. Overall mission 1 accomplished! Julie's leg is back together! Mission 2! The major concern now is the healing of the open wounds. She has major open wounds on the upper middle and lower parts of her leg. The lower leg has an area 7cm by 11 cm uncovered by skin. There is a long "s" wound from her mid thigh to the middle of her shin. He was serious about this being the most dangerous part of this whole recovery section. If there was infection first they would operate to remove it. The worst case would be amputation which he says is a possibility but at this point not the focus. The other concern is bone death and infection. Some of the breaks were so extensive that the bone still there is stripped and damaged."
